Who is this guy? Mark Making Crepes? hahah Good One!

It may have taken a while to get the RIGHT power converter, it may have taken a few days to get some solid recipes, but on August 7th 2011, here i am making my FIRST crepe(this picture is actually probably number 10 or so haha, my first few were rough) on my machine, i know i am not wearing an apron or a hair net, but i am making a crepe none the less.

So here is the story of my FIRST crepe making experience. So i have my batter, i have my ladle, i have my spreader and flipper(i dont know if those are official names) i am sitting there staring at the fully heated griddle/stone cooking surface. And i just thought, this is the beginning of my crepe making adventure...this is the beginning of success!!....so i filled up my ladle and poured it all over my griddle....first off it starts SMOKING EVERYWHERE, the crepe is burnt and stuck onto the griddle, i try scrapping it off, not much success...i look around to see if anyone is watching...luckily no one was watching. So i tried again...but same thing....man those French people made it look WAY easy....maybe i didn't season my griddles enough....hmmmmm.

So then my mom comes out, and says let me try it....haha good luck i am thinking to myself....she fills the ladle and pours the batter onto the griddle, spreads it in a PERFECT circle...the crepe looks sparkly gold on both sides, pretty much it looked perfect.....man do i feel like a loser...i am suppose to be the "Crepe Master", "Mark the Crepe Magician"...some people have even gone as far as to call me the "King of Crepes"...and here my mom showed me up on her first try. haha....fortunately i gathered up my self-dignity and started making some decent crepes by the end of the morning.

I Guess i Should Explain the Logo...

First off, let me just start by explaining how to pronounce our company's name...its ME Crepes, ME as in not you but ME. Its not M.E. Crepes, its ME Crepes, there has been a bit of confusion so i thought i would clear it up real quick haha.

Anyway, off to the juicy stuff....where does a guy...i mean MAN ;-), named Mark Ercanbrack decide to name is crepe shop, ME Crepes?....i hope you got the hint already...if not, read through this last sentence a few more times! Love you all! haha

Where it All Started!!!

So how does a 21 year old kid from Provo, Utah who doesn't even know how to cook eggs without burning them decide he wants to open his OWN gourmet(sounds neat huh?) crepe shop? It all started with this picture, THIS was the first bite of a crepe in Paris France, THIS was the reason I decided to start a crepe business!!!

This picture was taken June 30th, 2011 in Paris, France while on the Global Marketing Study Abroad through Brigham Young University. After this bite, it only took till July 2nd, 2011 that i completed the "rough" business plan haha, and started searching to figure out what kind of equipment the French people use, their recipes, how they present their product, etc.

So it took all the way until July 4th, 2011 so decide i wanted to drop a few thousand dollars on a French Crepe Machine(i had to celebrate Independence Day somehow, Right? ;-). The next day i got an e-mail from my sister saying:

"Um Mark, have you been checking your e-mail? There is a charge on your credit card for a few thousand dollars for a CREPE MACHINE....it looks really suspicious, probably identity theft!!!" hahaha

On study abroad we went to New York, Paris, Switzerland, Italy, China and India. In Paris our whole group ate so many crepes that we probably all gained about 10 lbs(dont worry we lost all the weight in China and India, lets just say...stomach problems). Anyway I had to bring these delightful and somewhat magical crepes back to the 801, P-town, Provo, whatever you want to call it haha. It was a must!

By the time my study abroad ended on July 21st, i came home to a giant 150lb crepe machine in my garage, a logo "custom" made and a whole lot of work to do!!! THIS BLOG WILL TAKE YOU ON THE JOURNEY THAT I HAVE BEEN ON, STARTING UP MY OWN CREPE BUSINESS!!! HOW HARD COULD IT BE.....RIGHT? HAHA
